Preserved, dried or artificial flowers: what is the difference?

A preserved rose, a dried flower and an artificial rose can each be used in a decorative gift, but they are made differently. Start with the material when comparing products for your shop. This article explains how natural preserved flowers differ from dried flowers and from decorative foam or soap roses, so you can choose and describe each product accurately.

Preserved flowers are treated natural flowers

Preserved roses begin as real flowers and undergo a treatment intended to retain their decorative appearance and supple texture. They are not growing plants and do not need watering. The exact treatment and resulting feel can differ between products.

Terms such as “eternal rose” and “forever rose” are often used for preserved rose gifts. Check the product description rather than treating those names as a specific material standard or a promise that the flower lasts forever.

Dried flowers have had moisture removed

Drying removes moisture from natural flowers or foliage. The texture and appearance depend on the flower and drying method; some dried material feels crisp or brittle. Preservation and drying are different processes, although both are used for decorative natural flowers.

Choose by the required look and handling needs rather than assuming that every dried or preserved flower behaves alike. ENROSED’s linked preserved rose collections are finished gifts and displays; these pages do not describe a wholesale range of loose dried stems.

Artificial roses made from foam or soap

Foam and soap roses imitate the shape of a flower using other materials. ENROSED’s artificial flower gifts include foam rose hearts and bears, plus packaged soap roses. These are finished decorative gifts, while preserved roses are treated natural flowers.

Do not infer that a decorative soap rose is intended for bathing or skin use from its name. Follow the stated use for that specific product. Likewise, a rose-shaped gift should not automatically be sold as a fresh flower or preserved botanical.

On a shelf label, “preserved rose in a glass dome” and “foam rose heart” tell customers different things. Name both the material and the gift format; matching colours or packaging do not mean the products contain the same kind of flower.

Compare the product format before buying cartons

A glass dome, flowerbox and counter display answer different retail needs. Compare the dimensions, colour options and presentation first, then check how many saleable pieces are included in each display and outer carton.

  • Material: natural preserved rose or decorative soap/foam product.
  • Format: individual gift, multi-rose box or a display of separate gifts.
  • Order details: carton quantity, confirmed trade price and delivery requirements.
  • Customer information: accurate material description and relevant care instructions.
